About LIOTHYROIC T3

LIOTHYROIC (T3) is a potent thyroid hormone used to treat hypothyroidism and myxedema coma. It increases the basal metabolic rate, supports protein synthesis, and enhances the body’s sensitivity to catecholamines such as adrenaline. Thyroid hormones regulate metabolism of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates, and are essential for the growth and differentiation of all human cells.

Comparison with Levothyroxine (T4)

Compared to levothyroxine (T4), LIOTHYROIC T3has a faster onset of action and a shorter half-life due to reduced protein binding. It can be used alone or in combination with T4 for thyroid withdrawal in treatments such as radioactive iodine (131I) ablation for thyroid cancer or Graves’ disease. LIOTHYROIC T3withdrawal requires only 2 weeks (vs. 6 weeks for T4), making it more convenient for patients.

Warnings

Thyroid hormone drugs, alone or with other agents, have been misused for obesity treatment. Normal therapeutic doses are ineffective for weight reduction, while larger doses may cause severe or life-threatening toxicity, especially when combined with sympathomimetic amines.
